On Friday, late afternoon/early evening, Belmont was the venue for the 2nd XV Cup Final between city rivals Campbell College and Royal Belfast Academical Institution. A cold wind blew down the pitch, in Inst’s favour, in the 1st half.

After an early period when the packs tested each other out, Inst set up a maul and drove forward into the Campbell 22. Ross Dillon broke away and ran in on the blindside for the opening try. Jamie Beattie’s conversion had Inst 7-0 up in 7 minutes.
Both sides were willing to bring their backs into the game and moved the ball wide, but defences cancelled each other out.
