I caught the Women’s Junior Cup semi final between Malone and Queen’s University at Gibson Park on Sunday afternoon.
Queen’s started well and had Malone under the cosh in the early stages. However an interception, practically on her own line, saw Lauren Hassett sprint the length of the pitch for Malone’s opening try. Grainne Murphy added the extras to give Malone a 7 – 0 lead after 8 minutes.
Queen’s continued to control territory and possession and the eventually got their breakthrough when Rebecca Mann went over after 22 minutes to take the score to 7 – 5.
