Men Premier: Queen’s University 5 Raphoe 1

I caught up with the Ulster Hockey Men’s Premier League Match between Queen’s University and Raphoe at The Dub on Tuesday night.

Queens looked to push forward from the off but it took them a while to break down the experienced Raphoe defence. However, the pressure led to a series of penalty corners and Conor Irwin converted for the opening goal after 10 minutes to give Queens a 1 – 0 lead in the first quarter.

Conor Irwin got Queens on their way with two successful penalty corner strikes.

The second quarter was fairly similar and once again it took a another accurate strike from Irwin at a penalty corner to beat the Raphoe defence for the second time giving Queens a 2 – 0 lead to take into the second half.
