Early Friday afternoon Ballymena Academy hosted Royal Belfast Academical Institution in a Medallion Shield Round of 16 tie.
Playing into a strong, cool diagonal wind blowing into their right corner and facing strong low sunlight, Inst found themselves under pressure from kick off. Ballymena camped in the Inst 22, for long periods, but met a very robust Inst defence.
Despite territory and possession, all Ballymena had to show for their dominance was a solitary Billy Wylie penalty goal, after 12 minutes.
Eventually, after over 20 minutes of defence, Inst broke the siege and ran the ball out of defence, against the wind with a series of short passes and forward drives.
