I popped along to Newforge early Saturday afternoon for the Ulster Hockey Intermediate League table topping clash between the PSNI and Raphoe with the police side hoping to make up some ground on leaders Raphoe.
I arrived in the middle of a heavy downpour which soon cleared but left a bit of zip on the playing surface for this game which both teams were eager to exploit in an open encounter.

The PSNI looked to be pushing forward with most intent at the start of the first quarter but they were caught out by a nice turn in the box by Raphoe’s Jonathan Long who opened the scoring after 9 minutes giving Raphoe a 0 – 1 lead as the teams went into the second . . .
