On a sunny, but chilly, Saturday morning Bangor Academy hosted Carrickfergus Grammar School in a 1st Round Medallion Shield tie.
Carrick took control from kick off, forcing Bangor back. A series of drives resulted in a Rory Pollard try after 6 minutes, putting Carrick 5-0 up.
There was then a substantial period of play, where Carrick were in control but couldn’t make possession into points. A rare excursion into the Carrick half yielded a penalty goal, after 20 minutes, for Bangor out half, Sean Hynes, reducing the deficit to 3-5.

However, Carrick replied immediately when Joshua Oluwatula drove over for a converted try and a 12 – 3 lead.
