The game had only just started when UCC broke through. The visitor’s No 12, Daniel Squires, chipping ahead for winger Matthew Bowen to run on to, his try converted by No 15, Rob Hedderman.

The score stung Ballynahinch into action, and they pressed forward to earn a penalty, which Jack Milligan successfully converted.
Both teams probed and rucked throughout the half with little success but two penalties, one for each team in rapid succession increased the scores. Hedderman and Milligan both being on target to give the visitors a 6 – 10 lead at the break.

The second half was a scrappy affair with both teams again trying to find a way through the disciplined defences.
The home pack were having a fair bit of success in the scrum and mauls without an end result and the visitors tried to kick their way out of trouble without finding touch.
Apart from a couple of breakaway attempts, action was limited to scrums and driving mauls neither of which produced end results.
Only one failed penalty attempt by the visitors to report in the second half but they held firm to take the victory.
