Methodist College will be left wondering how they lost this highly contested and sometimes tetchy schools’ friendly at their Pirrie Park fortress.
Methody kick off and went straight on the attacked and were rewarded when No 8 forward Louis Montgomery scored close to the posts in the early minutes. Callum Davidson provided the easy conversion.
They continued to dominate in territory and possession, with Wallace living off scraps, but were unable to penetrate a stubborn Wallace defence.
With half time looming, a loose pass in a Methody attack was intercepted close to the half way line and No 12 Ben Carson ran in unopposed close to the posts. No 13 Nathan Doak provided the extra points to leave the half time score 7 – 7.
Wallace went on the attacked from the restart and following quickly recycled ball Harry McMeekin squeezed in midway out for a try converted by No 13 Doak.
Play continued to move end to end, but despite surge after surge of Methody attacks in the closing minutes, Wallace’s defence held firm, to hold out for victory by 14 – 7.
