Friendly: Ulster Women end their preparations with a convincing win.

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

Ulster Women entertained the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on Saturday evening at Belfast Harlequins Rugby Club for their last hit out before the Women’s Interprovincials, which kick off next weekend.

It was a bit of a one sided match with Ulster coming out on top 62 – 5 though the young touring side did remain competitive for the bulk of the first half.

Despite the fact that it was a convincing win for the home side it’s difficult to ascertain how much they got out of the game other than a physical contest. The home team had too many big guns to call on and despite many errors their experienced players , and , and youngster , kept them going forward.

Jemma Jackson sprints for the line for an Ulster score.

Based on the original selection, Storm Coban and Ella Durkin were two of the replacements that put their hands up for selection with impressive cameos in the second half, albeit against a tiring side. I’m not 100% convinced that the centre pairing of and Maeve Liston worked and would perhaps be more effective the other way round.

Ella Durkin impressed towards the end of the game.

For Ulster, the real test, and I would say their first genuine trials match, starts next week with a difficult away trip to Cork to face Munster Women in the opening round of the Women’s Interprovincials.

Despite an extended pre-season Ulster Rugby have only delivered two fairly low key warm up matches and are still chopping and changing players in unfamiliar positions. In fairness the players have delivered two wins, a scarce commodity in Ulster Women’s Rugby, but it all moves up several notches next week.

As for the Thunderbirds, they will have got a lot out of this match as they begin their preparations for the coming season. They were competitive for much of the first half before running out of steam but they worked hard until the end of the game.

Hopefully the officials gave us the right scoreline at the end of the match 🙂
