PRO12: Connacht 7 Ulster 18

Ulster’s trip to the West certainly helped to reinvigorate their season with the Northern Province recording their first win of this campaign with an 18 – 7 win. A first half try from Michael Allen kept Ulster in touch with an abrasive Connacht and the visitors pulled away in the second half with Paddy Jackson crossing for a try to add to two penalties and a conversion.

It would have been rude not to enjoy a few pints with the large travelling Ulster support so, as is often the case, my recollection of the game was a bit hazy, necessitating a re-watch on iPlayer this afternoon.

Connacht enjoyed the opening exchanges and went into an early lead after Willie Faloon broke through the Ulster defence allowing Dan Parks to waltz through a lacklustre Ulster defence to score close to the posts. The Connacht out half added the conversion to give the hosts a 7 – 0 lead.

Ulster responded almost immediately with Michael Allen finishing off a break from Jackson. The Ulster out-half impressed throughout with the ball in hand and a sharp break from the Ginger Prince was quickly moved to the left for Payne to find Allen who . . .
