The Ulster Ravens are out of contention in this season’s British & Irish Cup after suffering their third successive defeat in Pool C – a 29-11 loss to London Welsh at Old Deer Park.
It’s been a disappointing campaign for Ulster’s youngsters, particularly as they showed so much promise early on against in the season but the value of this competition is that it exposes the players to a higher level of competitive rugby than they’d normally experience.
Patrick Jackson opened the scoring for Ulster and McCrea and Gilroy showed well in the early exchanges, however the binning of David McGuigan who had to cover a lot of ground in the back row let London Welsh take command with the English Championship side scoring 17 points in his absence.
Jackson managed to slot over a penalty during McGuigan’s absence but the home side looked fairly comfortable with their 17 – 6 lead.
