Men All Ireland: Banbridge 5 Monkstown 3

We caught up with the Men’s All Ireland Hockey League match between Banbridge and Monkston at Havelock Park on Saturday afternoon.

The match appeared to be going according to the home teams script in the first half as Louis Rowe opened the scoring after ten minutes and Johnny McKee converted a penalty corner 11 minutes later to see Banbridge take a 2 – 0 lead into the second half.

A lively third quarter saw Banbridge extend their lead to 3 – 0 as L Lowe slotted in a penalty corner, but an energetic Monkstown pulled it back to 3 – 1 six minutes later as Mark Gibbons somehow diverted a rasping shot into the Banbridge goal.
