Irish Junior Cup: Queen’s University II 0 Portadown II 1

On bright, autumnal Saturday lunchtime Queens II played Portadown II in an Irish Junior Cup tie at The Dub.

It was a cagey start from both teams. Neither team could impose themselves on the other, the midfield became crowded with players unable to find their forwards. Defences were on top in a scoreless 1st quarter.

There was little change in the 2nd quarter, though Queens edged much of the play, but defences were unable to be broken down. Halftime was reached scoreless.

Lucy Megaw scored the game’s solitary goal.

Queens began to exert some domination in the 3rd quarter. It was perhaps against that run of play when Portadown took the lead through a Lucy Megaw shot, following a penalty corner. Portadown led 1-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
