I caught up with the Irish Hockey Senior Cup match between Pegasus and Avoca at Newforge Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Pegasus took control of this one early on with Stef Ardis and Sophie McDowell bearing down on the Avoca defence fairly regularly as Captain Ruth McCandless pulled the strings in midfield.

Katie McDonald watches her shot all the way into the net.

However it was Katie McDonald that opened the scoring, after 8 minutes, with a penalty corner strike to give Pegs a 1 – 0 lead.

Sophie McDowell picked up a first half . . .
