Ards welcomed Railway Union to Londonderry Park for a Women’s Hockey All Ireland League match on saturday afternoon.
This was my featured match for the weekend and it didn’t disappoint as two of Ulster’s finest athletes, Zara Malseed of Ards and Katie Mullan of Railway Union, went head to head in a high quality game.
Ards started strongly with Malseed’s driving runs through the centre of the park the main feature of their attacking play. Railway eventually conceded a penalty corner, after nine minutes, and a lovely interchange between Malseed and Erin Getty, with Ellen Robinson running interference, saw Malseed open the scoring to give Ards a 1 – 0 lead.
