On Sunday, in sunny, even warm conditions Ulster U16s played their Leinster counterparts in Match One of a triple header, at Havelock Park, Banbridge, in the U16 Interprovincial Championships.
The game was barely 2 minutes old when a threw ball found Adam McKee, who danced round the Leinster keeper, before slotting the ball home for a 1 – 0 Ulster lead. Barely a minute later Matthew McAreavey added a second goal to put Ulster 2 – 0 up.
Leinster steadied the ship and a Scott Kenny strike pulled one back for Leinster, after 10 minutes.
An 11th minute McAreavey goal brought Ulster up to 3 – 1 and a John Cunningham goal on 14 minutes gave Ulster a comfortable 4-1 1st quarter . . .
