I arrived at Bangor Grammar School shortly after 9.00am, for the Schools Cup Group B game against visitors, Banbridge Academy. It was cold, wolves howled & a polar bear wandered across the halfway line! However, by 10.30 am, with a low sun beating down, the pitch was ‘taking a stud’.
Banbridge went on the attack from kick off. A speculative box kick was misfielded by the Bangor defence. Dan Hutchinson took advantage, kicking the ball through, before gathering and touching down after 3 minutes to put Banbridge 5 – 0 up.
Though Banbridge had most of the play, they couldn’t force another score. Bangor’s forays into the Banbridge 22 had the defence scrambling to clear lines.
