We caught up with the Ulster (Denman) Shield defending champions, Pegasus, as they welcomed Ulster University Elks to the Dub for their first game in this season’s competition.
Both teams had brought in new faces over the summer, most noticeably the Elks who had former Pegasus stalwart Alex Speers starting against her old side.
Indeed, Speers, who scored for Pegasus in last seasons final of this competition, almost gave the Elks an early lead with a typically bustling run, but the threat was scrambled away and from then on the lean mean red machine pretty much dominated proceedings.
It did take them while to move through the gears and the Elks did continue to carve out a few chances though they may regret a . . .
