Athletics NI are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Mary Peters’ stunning pentathlon gold medal win at the 1972 Munich Olympics this weekend.
The activities kicked off early Friday 27th May when Lady Mary Elizabeth Peters met with the budding athletes from local school at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast.
Pupils from Stranmillis Primary School, Longstone Special School, St Brides Primary School, Downey House Preparatory School and Fullerton House Preparatory School met at the track to greet the arrival of Mary Peters, spelling out her name on the track before taking part in a series of races.
