RBAI defeat Sullivan 38-13 in a Schools Cup Quarter Final

On Saturday morning Sullivan Upper School clashed with Royal Belfast Academical Institution in the quarter final of the Schools Cup.

It was damp and overcast and rain threatened the contest.

On almost their first excursion into Inst territory Sullivan took the lead with a Harry McKeown penalty goal.

Bryn Ward claimed Inst’s first try

Inst took a little while to respond, due, in part, to some strong Sullivan tackling. After 15 minutes Bryn Ward rumbled over from close range for their opening try, converted by Josh Eagleson, to lead 7-3.

Another McKeown penalty goal, following an Inst yellow card, reduced the gap to 7-6.

Two serious head injuring to Sullivan players and an ankle injury to the referee would add 15 minutes stoppage time to the 1st half and disrupt continuity.

Two Inst tries, by Jamie Beattie and Jacob Boyd would complete the first half scoring and give Inst a 17-6 halftime lead.

Myles Lowe powers over!

After the break, now playing with the breeze, Inst consolidated their lead, when Myles Lowe powered over after 37 minutes, converted by Eagleson, to take Inst out to 24-6.

Another Inst yellow card saw Sullivan take advantage, when Callum Hoe scored close to the posts. Conor McMaster converted to reduce Sullivan’s deficit to 24-13.

Oliver Clark launches himself for the line to score Insta’s final try

Inst continued to press and Rory Stewart’s and Oliver Clark’s tries on 54 and 58 minutes, respectively, both converted by Eagleson, completed the scoring, leaving Inst with a commanding 38-13 win.

They can now look forward to a Kingspan semi final against arch rivals Methodist College.
