Scores at the end of each half see Methody through to the semi final after a strong showing from Ballyclare.

Ballyclare High welcomed the much vaunted Methodist College Belfast to the Rashee Road on Saturday morning for a Schools Cup Quarter Final match.

Ballyclare took it to the Belfast side for the bulk of the first half after an early Callum Cochrane penalty gave the home side a 3 – 0 lead.

Ferocious tackling was the order of the first half in a match that became a bit of an arm wrestle in worsening conditions. Ballyclare looked good value for their lead with some outstanding turnovers at the breakdowns.

A strong start by Ballyclare sees them take a 3 – 0 lead from Callum Cochrane.

Unfortunately, a yellow card for Ballyclare’s scrum half, towards the end of the first half, gave Methody the space they hadn’t been able to find and Lorcan Hanratty bundled over in the last play of the half, for Ben McFarland to convert, to give Methody a 3 – 7 lead at the break.

The cultured boot of Ballyclare’s Alex Darrah had less effect in the second half with the home side now playing into the stiff breeze and Methody were able to keep Ballyclare pinned in their own half and on the back foot.

Three second half penalties from Ben McFarland moved Methody clear of Ballyclare High.

An early penalty from Methody’s McFarland moved the score along to 3 – 10 and Ballyclare’s Darrah and Methody’s McFarland swapped penalties to take it to 6 – 13 midway through the second half.

Method’s centre looks to supply the final pass for the final score of the game.

As Ballyclare looked to chase the game the visitors were able to take advantage and Methody closed out the match with a third penalty before Chris Bradley crossed out wide for an unconverted try with the last play of the game.

Methody will now play RBAI in the Schools Cup Semi Final Scheduled for Tuesday 1st March at Ravenhill.
