Regent House claim a narrow 15-12 victory over Bangor Grammar School in the Schools Cup

The drizzle on Saturday morning seemed to cover the whole Province and Newtownards was no exception. Regent House and Bangor Grammar clashed in the 3rd Round of the Schools Cup in a local derby.

A Regent try by Noel Greenwood, converted by Zac Campbell saw them take a 7-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Regent House mount an early attack

Bangor equalised 5 minutes later when Ben Gibson converted his own try.

On 25 minutes a Dan Gibson try restored Regent’s lead ,which they held, during a very even 1st half, to halftime.

A 47th minute penalty goal by Campbell took Regent’s lead out to 15-7.

Bangor responded with a Ben McClean try on 62 minutes to reduce Regent’s lead to 15-12.

The Regent House defence held firm during a frantic last few minutes

Bangor threw everything at Regent in the last 8 minutes, but a stubborn home defence held out for a win.

Regent now look forward to a 4th round tie at Dromore High School on or before 29th January.
