Down High have been going well under new coach Josh Pentland but they had an uphill task on Fox’s Field if their cup run was to progress.

Campbell burst out of the blocks and were 7 – 0 up in under 5 minutes when Peter Caves try in the corner was upgraded to a penalty try for a dangerous tackle.
Play continued in the Down half as Campbell used the strong wind to push back and any gains from their opposition. A penalty from Oliver Topping in front of the posts nudged their score on to 10 – 0.
Down were struggling to establish their game plan as Campbell’s defensive line speed was disrupting any rhythm and once the all blacks had possession they stretched Down in every direction.
Not surprisingly they were in for a second try after a powerful run from Oliver McCauley set up his prop Cameron Hillis to barge over. Conversion missed, now 15 – 0.
Campbell’s potent pack soon were causing more problems and from a line out maul, hooker Zac Soloman was over for another try, again no extras added. 20 – 0 on the half hour mark.
The pack wasn’t finished and went over again through McCauley after a pacey run from outside centre Matthew Booth and although the conversion was missed Campbell looked in total control at 25 – 0 at half time.
Campbell were just as ruthless in the second period as they stamped their authority on the match with a further three tries from Matthew Rae, Lukas Kenny, who was very impressive at full back, and Reece Bell. Kicking was unsuccessful at enhancing the lead but the home team were at the finishing posts.
Down High battled to the end and were rewarded with a touch down from Finnian Cross after strong carries from Cameron McCauley and Rhodri Phillips. Ross Graham converted for a final score of 40 – 7.
Campbell have a quarter final at home against Dromore HS and Down High will contend for the subsidiary shield.
