Women: Ireland at the Atlanta Sevens – Day 1

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

John_s_version_3A six hour marathon yesterday as I continue to bring myself up to speed on this version of the game that it seems is going to dominate Women’s Rugby in Ireland for the foreseeable future!

Match replays below from worldrugby.org. Ireland’s match against Russia can be found half way through the video below.

ROUND 3

Ireland finish Day 1 in Atlanta without a win after going down 10 – 7 to Russia in their final Pool match.

Not a match they should have won, but perhaps one that they could have after a late break by led to the second try of the tournament for which converted. Unfortunately the amount of faffing about they did in the closing minutes resulted in them running out of time.

However, it’s important that they remained competitive against one of their main rivals for Olympic Sevens qualification and they will get a chance to make a statement against their other main rivals, Spain, who they now face in the Bowl Semi Final at 19:20 UK/Ire time on Saturday.

ROUND 2

Ireland totally outclassed by Canada to go down 29 – 5 in the opening match of Round 2 in Atlanta. A late try by Hannah Tyrrell saved them from their heaviest defeat ever by the Canadians in an error strewn display.

Russia also suffer their second defeat, going down 22 – 7 to France so Ireland have a chance to rescue something from a disappointing day when they face the Russians in the last Pool match at 11.20 pm tonight.

CANADA 2 2 0 0 6
FRANCE 2 2 0 0 6
RUSSIA 2 0 0 2 2
IRELAND 2 0 0 2 2

ROUND 1

That’s a pity – the live stream crashed half way through the Ireland v France game  😐 .

Ireland were 15 – 0 down at that point and they went on to lose 22 – 0. With Canada beating Russia 26 – 5 in the opening game of Pool B the table now looks as follows:

Pool B
  P W D L PTS
FRANCE 1 1 0 0 3
CANADA 1 1 0 0 3
RUSSIA 1 0 0 1 1
IRELAND 1 0 0 1 1
