A composed second half from Belfast Harlequins sees them through against a hard working Omagh Academicals in Premiership D2

I caught up with this one rather late. I’d left the hockey match at Jordanstown in good time but I’d completely misjudged the traffic chaos at Stockman’s Lane and the Boucher Road for some pop concert or other.

When I arrived, about half an hour in, Belfast Harlequins were leading 5 – 0 thanks to a Chris Larmour unconverted try but Omagh were pounding the line looking for an equaliser.

David Braden had a few goes at the line for Omagh

Sure enough it arrived, three minutes later with Accies prop David Braden hitting the line on the second attempt. The conversion was good from Kyle Beattie to give Omagh a 5 – 7 lead at half time.

An second half brace from Larmour, to collect his hat trick, put Quins well on their way and with Paul Kerr converting both the score rattled along to 19 – 7 in Quins favour. however, Omagh showed they could run as well and a breakout from their out half was finished by centre Steve McClean and converted by Beattie to make it a one score game at 19 – 14.

Larmour evades the Omagh defence for his second try.

Quins looked to their pack who delivered a couple of kickable penalties for Kerr which took the sting out of the game and took the score to 25 – 14.

Omagh kept battling but were mostly restricted to breakouts and Quins wrapped it up with a late score from captain Mark Glover, converted by Kerr, to give Quins a 23 – 14 win.
