With the Energia AIL 1B being parked until 11th January, we have a look at who has been doing what in the first half of the season.
Energia AIL 1B Results and Standings.
We have two weekends of results and a Week 5 refix match to catch up with.
The refix was played on Thursday evening with Old Wesley recording a 38 – 15 win against Navan at Energia Park. The scorers from that match are now included in our overall totals but not in the two week review.
It’s been an interesting two weeks in AIL 1B with the previously undefeated Highfield and Old Wesley recording their first losses of the season and Navan recording their first win.
Banbridge have been the only side to take any sort of advantage of the slip ups, by the top two, with the Ulster side the only team to record two wins.
At the other end of the scale Old Belvedere will be happy to see the back of December with their two losses leaving them without a win in this month.
With the rest of the sides winning one and losing one the league now looks like this.
Energia AIL 1B Current Form
Having won their last three matches with a try bonus point, Banbridge are now the form team in the league based on the last three and the last five results.
Malone are in second pace after picking up 10 match points, out of a possible 15, but like a lot of teams in this competitive league consistency has been a problem.
Going into the second half of the season the stats would point to both Highfield and Old Wesley continuing to dominate with Banbridge and St Mary’s College the two sides most likely to take advantage should either of the top two slip up again.
Energia AIL 1B Scorers.
There were 367 points scored over Week 8 and Week 9 with Week 9 the second lowest scoring week this season with 166 points scored.
The points over the two weekends came from 50 tries, 30 conversions (60% conversion rate), and 19 penalties, the conversion rate being someway below the season average of 70%.
Banbridge’s Adam Doherty recorded the most points over the two rounds with his 18 point total coming from 1 try, 5 conversions and 1 penalty. Malone’s Jack Milligan was a point behind with 17 from 4 conversions and 3 penalties.
Correction 24th December 2019. More good news for Adam Doherty as thanks to our readers an additional 9 points have been added to his total due to an incorrect allocation in Week 4.
Michael Cromie (Banbridge) was out on his own on 15 points from 3 tries followed by Colm O’Reilly (Navan) and Ruairi Shields (St Mary’s College) both on 12, O’Reilly hitting 3 conversions and 2 penalties and Shields 4 penalties.
Shane O’Riordan (Highfield) and Peter Osborne (Naas) hold on to their top six spots each clocking up 11 points over the two weekends.
Rory Stynes is the biggest mover by virtue of the refix game against Navan with the Old Wesley player picking up 18 points in that game from 2 tries and four conversions to add to the 10 points he picked up over Weeks 8 and 9.
Now we’ve hit the halfway point of the league we’ve broken out the individual try scorers and Shannon’s Pa Ryan leads the way with an impressive 7 tries to date.
However, Colin O’Neill (Highfield), Fionn Higgins (Nass) and Hugo Conway (St Mary’s College) are just a try behind in a competition that could run to the last week of the season.
