AIL 1A: Week 5 Wrap.

, ,

It was a big weekend for Ballynahinch who recorded their first win in the Energia  AIL 1A. It was a big bonus point win at that and it see’s the Ballymacarn outfit move off the bottom of the table.

At the top of the table Cork Constitution remain undefeated with five wins from five games after a three point win against Dublin University.

Energia AIL 1A Results Week 5

Young Munster are now the only team without a win, but it can’t be that far off. The Limerick side haven’t lost any game by much, picking up a least a losing bonus in every game they have played so far.

Terenure College returned to winning ways, their win against UCC lifting Terenure back into second place. UCC drop two spots, to fourth, thanks to UCD also picking up a win at Clontarf.

Garryowen’s win at Young Munster has allowed them to leapfrog Clontarf and move back into the top half of the table to fifth place.

Energia AIL 1A Standings Week 5

Now we are five rounds into the competition and have some match stats to work off we’ll be doing a separate preview of the upcoming fixtures on Thursdays/Fridays going forward.

Energia AIL 1A Scorers

There were a 193 points scored in Week 5, just a couple of points above the average for the previous four rounds. To date 99 different players have scored, including 2 penalty tries.

The weekend’s points came from 25 tries, 16 conversions (64% conversion rate), 11 penalties and one drop goal. Young Munster’s Evan Cusack achieved the remarkable feat of scoring a try, conversion, penalty and drop goal in their match against Garryowen. Thirteen points seems a miserable return for such a feat, maybe they should add an extra ten points if a player achieves this golden quartet? 😆 It certainly would have helped Young Munster’s cause on Friday night!

Cusack’s 13 points see him move to second in the leading scorers table but Sean O’Hagan (Ballynahinch) was the weekend’s leading scorer picking up 18 points from 2 tries and four conversions and the Hinch man moves back to top spot. Team mate Aaron Cairns came second over the round with 15 points from 3 tries making it a good weekend for Hinch.

Garyowen’s Ben Healy shows in our leading scorers table by virtue of his 14 point haul against Young Munster and Clontarf’s Sean Kearns jumps up to 6th place after picking up 13 points the easy way with a try, conversion and two penalties.

The leading try scorers are UCC who have bagged 17 tries to date, their points coming from 10 different scorers.

Aaron Cairns (Ballynahinch) and Murray Linn (UCC) are the leading try scorers with 4 each with the following players all on 3 tries each – Sam Dardis (Terenure College), Bryan Fitzgerald (Garryowen), Tommy O’Hora (Garryowen), Adam Leavy (Lansdowne), Ryan Murphy (UCC), Matt Bowen (UCC).

Dublin University have the highest number of different scorers with 14 players contributing so far.
