The teams for Saturday’s Ulster Women’s Interprovincial match against Connacht Women, which kicks off at Queens sports Arena at 15:30, have finally been announced.

After a much improved performance from Ulster, in their last outing against Leinster, there are a surprising five changes to the starting line up and one addition to the bench.

Malone’s Holly Brannigan will be making her senior debut with a start at full back and is joined in the starting line up by Emma Jordan (Malone) on the wing and Jemma Jackson (Old Belvedere) at out half, Jordan missing out on Leinster and Jackson on the bench.

Up front Chloe McIlwaine comes into the starting line up for the first time this season as does Katie Hetherington by virtue of injuries to Hannah Beattie and captain Beth Cregan respectively. The captaincy for this one goes to Neve Jones.

Connacht have made two changes from their loss to Munster.

In the pack there’s a return to the lineup for FRU Favourite Denise Redmond who partners Tara Buggies in the second row – a move which sees captain Nichola Fryday return to the number 8 jersey.

The second change is in the back three with Mairead Coyne named at full-back and Aoibheann Reilly shifting to the wing.

Current standings.

Munster Women 2 2 0 0 65 18 47 11 2 2 0 10
Leinster Women 2 2 0 0 58 11 47 10 1 2 0 10
Ulster Women 2 0 0 2 17 62 -45 3 10 0 0 0
Connacht Women 2 0 0 2 12 61 -49 0 11 0 0 0

Ulster had the edge when these teams met earlier in the summer but this will be a different game and Connacht possibly come out the right side of the changes made from that occasion. However, Ulster are on a comparative upward trajectory this season and if they continue to improve they might just put an end to that 20 match run without a win.
