Ireland women have set up a quarter final meeting with England on Day 2 after recording two wins and a loss in Pool C on Day 1 in Kazan.

After two regulation wins against pool minnows, Romania and Czechia, Ireland went into their final pool match against Spain knowing that a win would set them up for the easier side of the draw for Day 2.

However it was Spain that went through as Pool leaders following a 19 – 5 win against a somewhat disjointed Ireland. The result leaves Ireland needing to beat England in the quarter finals if they are to keep their dreams of Olympic qualification alive.

Ireland’s Pool C match details are shown below.

Pool C: Ireland 48 Romania 0

Ireland got their challenge for Olympic qualification off to a flyer scoring four tries each half in their win against Romania.
