Club Men: AIL 1B Week 15 Wrap

The AIl 1B returns this weekend with the last three rounds to be played over the next four weeks and it appears to be setting itself up for a thrilling finale with only five points separating the top five clubs.

The last round featured big wins for Ulster clubs Ballynahinch and City of Armagh consolidate their top three standings.

Banbridge’s win against Ballymena at Eaton Park keeps Banbridge still in the hunt, thought they will be relying on others to slip up, but it practically consigned Ballymena to a bottom place finish. Malone’s losing bonus at Old Belvedere still gives them some say at the top of the table.

The current standings are as follows.

Old Wesley’s good form over the last few weeks has enabled Rory Stynes to leapfrog Peter Osborne and put some clear space between himself and the rest of the leading contenders.

However, Steve Crosbie at Old Belvedere has scored the most points over the last four rounds averaging nine points a game for his 36 point improvement.

The arrival of Ian Porter at Banbridge has seen the ex Ulster player take over the kicking duties from Adam Doherty, who is in danger of dropping out of the top six.

Old Belvedere’s Jack Keating has created some room for himself at the top of the leading try scorers table, banging in four tries over the last four weeks.

Banbridge’s Peter Cromie and Naas’ Andrew Ellis have both added one each to their totals and Conor Field (Banbridge) has announced himself as a late contender, banging in three against Ballymena.

We really do have quite an exciting finish to this league with half the sides in realistic contention to claim the title. The current form, over the last five rounds, is shown below and, at the minute, Ballynahinch look favourites to finish in top spot if they continue to pick up match points at the current rate.

Of course, this league has saw most teams change form at the drop of a hat so, as a bit of fun we’ve factored in the home and away form for over the season for each of the teams and combined it with their current form to give us the most likely (in terms of the stats) finish to the end of the season.

It’s good news for Ballynahinch who we are predicting should pick up another nine points to finish top of the heap but it’s pretty tight with Old Wesley and City of Armagh hot on their heels. This one will go down to the wire.
