Our feature match was at Anglesea Road where Old Belvedere entertained Cooke in a good workout for both sides.

Cooke finished the regular season by picking up a losing bonus point in a 10 – 5 loss to Old Belvedere in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

The Belfast side took the game to Old Belvedere in an entertaining game and their powerful scrum, led by Ilse van Staden, gave the visitors some dominance up front.

Cooke opened the scoring mid-way through the first half when Eliza Downey chased down a kick ahead, by out half Vicky Irwin, to outstrip the defence and score.

The Belfast side had their chances to go further ahead but the first half ended without further score the teams turning round with Cooke defending a 0 – 5 lead.

Old Belvedere brought on Nora Stapleton who brought some control to the home sides back line and shortly after Elise O’Byrne-White broke clear to equal the score.

The home side went into the lead following a try from Ailbhe Dowling who finished of a move involving Kathryn Dane and Stapleton to cross in the corner.

Despite a late surge by Cooke with Beth Cregan and van Staden to the fore the visitors were unable to find a another score the game ending with a 10 – 5 win for Old Belvedere.

The losing bonus secured Cooke a fourth place finish in the league and after remaining competitive to the final whistle they will go into their league play of semi final, against UL Bohemian in Limerick, next week with some confidence.

Old Belvedere finished in third place and they will make the short journey to Railway Union for the other semi final.
