Campbell College edged out Ballymena Academy in a closely contested match at Foxe’s Field on Saturday morning in the Danske Bank Schools Cup Quarter Final. The Belfast side squeezed home 12 – 10 but they were made to work hard by their Ballymena opponents.

The home side took an early lead when Ben Power touched down for an unconverted try. However the big crowd had to wait twenty minutes for the second score, which came after Ballymena broke up field and, after a couple of attempts, James McClean grounded the ball over the line for the equalising score. Bruce Houston added the extras to give Ballymena a two point lead at the break.

The defences largely dominated throughout but Campbell got their second score midway through the second half with Will Davies finding the line. The try was converted by Conor Rankin to give Campbell a 12 – 7 lead.

Ballymena hit back through a penalty from Houston, but, hard as they pressed, they were unable to further break down the home teams resolute defence, Campbell holding on to record a 12 – 10 win.
