Ulster’s Claire McLaughlin and Nikki Caughey have put their hands up for selection to the Ireland Women’s team for the upcoming Autumn Internationals with their inclusion in the 31 player squad for this weekend’s national camp.

McLaughlin has made only one appearance for Cooke this season, but it was a timely one at that, with the centre grabbing a brace of tries in the Belfast sides five try away win against St Mary’s at the weekend.

Caughey has been playing her rugby for Railway Union in Dublin since being involved in the Women’s 7’s programme, but after moving back to the XV’s game last season the out half has been scoring regularly for her adopted team.

Ireland head coach Tom Tierney has included six uncapped players in the squad for what is going to be a difficult series as Ireland Women (ranked 5th) face in New Zealand, England and Canada, the top three ranked sides in Women’s Rugby.

There aren’t many surprises, though I would have a grumble about the dearth of Ulster based players, but, unfortunately, Ulster Women’s interprovincial results don’t give me much room to maneuver, though I reserve the right to have more of a grumble after this season’s interpros which take place in December. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Anyway, here’s the squad for the two day camp.
