Ulster: The Season Ahead.

by

,

Ulster play their first pre-season game in less than a month, the game against Leinster taking place on the 13th August at Navan RFC.

With that in mind and with the first set of PRO12 fixtures announced yesterday I’ve found my thoughts turning to what sort of side we are going to see, maybe not in a month’s time, but when all of the forty nine players announced last month by Ulster Rugby as their Senior Squad are fit and available to play.

There certainly are some interesting selection quandaries and to sort it out I thought there would be no better way than having an old fashioned Probables against Possibles match and let them sort it out on the pitch! It’s certainly a game I’d pay to watch. 🙂

A good summary John – I think that Big Pete Brown played a blinder last season, and could oust big Dan unless he comes back at his very best. Also I think that Sean Reidy had the edge on Chad who wasn’t at his best last season maybe still trying to fully recover from the illness. Sgt Wilson cannot go on for ever and his best is probably coming off the bench for the last 20-25. Captaincy for me remains the issue – in my opinion Rory takes it on board, and although is rated by the players as a good motivating captain I think it detracts from his game. But looking forward to a new season with great expectations of something good happening at Ravers. SUFTUM.

  2. I agree we could see much more of Lorcan Dow in place of Roger, as the season goes on. I’ve been a big fan of Roger’s but nobody goes on forever. Lorcan could be the new kid on the block.
