by

John_s_version_1It was mixed fortunes for Ireland Women at the first leg of the European Rugby Women’s Sevens Grand Prix in Kazan, Russia, over the weekend with the team recording three wins and three defeats. Their fourth place finish was pretty much as expected given the calibre of teams on display.

Day 1

Ireland were placed in Pool B Alongside Russia, Italy and Belgium and they got Day 1 off to the best of starts with a 31 – 0 win against the Italians. Lucy Mulhall, Alison Miller (3) and Aoife Doyle all crossed the whitewash with Mulhall converting three.

The team struggled somewhat in their second outing but still managed to record a 12 – 7 win against Belgium with Nicole Cronin and Louise Galvin scoring tries, Niamh Briggs converting one.
