Women: AIL Round 1 Results

It wasn’t the start to the Women’s Club season that I was hoping for and it definitely wasn’t the start that QUB Ladies were wanting as they went down 0 – 89 to Blackrock at the Dub in their first appearance in the top flight of the Women’s All Ireland League.

An understrength Queen’s struggled to contain Blackrock.

The students started on the back foot with only 14 available players, quite a few of whom were playing out of position, and it got worse as they finished the game with 12, due to injury, but credit to the players who plugged away throughout the game.

Queen’s will just have to park this one and look at it as a fixture fulfilled, I expect that things will improve as their full panel becomes available.

To end on a positive note, I was pleased to see Gemma McCutcheon back on the pitch with one of her usual all action performances.
