PRO12: Low risk Ulster come up short, again!

Ulster once again came up short when it mattered most this time going down 16 – 14 to a robust Glasgow in the semi-final of the PRO12 play-off on Friday night.

I’d stated quite confidently that this was Ulster’s title to lose after their comprehensive win over Leinster guaranteed Ulster a play off spot with two matches to go. Quite frankly, the general standard of play in the PRO12 has been as poor as I can remember for many a season, a fact born out by dismal performances in Europe with only the afore mentioned Leinster making any sort of showing, and once Ulster had dispatched their immediate neighbours there really wasn’t a lot of quality standing in their way.

With a home final already guaranteed the stage was set for Ulster to push on in a triumphant rush to said final but instead they reverted to their “low risk rugby” approach, in what is now a season of marking time, and in the process blew one of the easiest chances of lifting silverware that they have had in many . . .

This sums up Ulster’s season perfectly. The decision masking has been awful at times and yes the first 10 minutes in the 2nd half on Friday lost the game. You are absolutely right also about the Leicester away game. I was at all the games you mentioned – same tactics away from home, no learning experience. I have bought next seasons season ticket and only hope Les Kiss can change things.
