PRO12: Gilroy sparks Ulster revival!

Ulster recorded their eleventh win in the PRO 12 with a 25 – 20 victory against Scarlets on Friday night at Ravenhill. Unfortunately their inability to secure a bonus point sees them slip to third place in the table.

Like so many matches this season Ulster played in fits and starts. A twenty minute burst after the break saw Craig Gilroy, Luke Marshall and Ruan Pienaar all run in tries but that all important bonus point try eluded them as they, once again, struggled to sustain their performance.

Ulster, resplendent in white and red, or black and blue for those of you watching on the internet, got off to the slowest of starts in a first half that was best ignored. Just for the record though, Pienaar slotted over two penalties, on the 24th and 31st minute as did Steve Shingler for the Scarlets on the 12th and 29th minute.  An errant Ian Humphreys pass gifted the simplest of run ins to John Barclay on the 39th minute which Shingler converted to give Scarlets a 6 – 13 lead at the break.
