PRO12: Treviso 12 Ulster 14.

by

, ,

Ulster struggled to a 12 – 14 win against Treviso on Sunday afternoon. A Darren Cave try in the first half and a Robbie Diack touch down in the second (both converted by Pienaar) were the only highlights in a pitiful display at Stadio Monigo.

On the positive side, with only the top five teams now guaranteed qualification for next seasons European Cup, Ulster are thirteen points clear of sixth place Scarlets who they now face on 14th March at Ravenhill.

Anyway, back to the game! As it was a relaxing Sunday afternoon I made some notes as the game progressed and as I really don’t want to relive the performance again these notes will have to do for the write up.

00:00 Oh feck it’s Clancy!

06:00 Mat Berquist knocks over a penalty with his second attempt. Robust start from the home team.

11:00 Cave goes over for Ulster try after Payne and Paul Marshall go close. Pienaar converts and Ulster lead 3 – 7.

19:00 Gilroy chance after cross . . .

Bit of respect for our esteemed Mr. Neilly please. Who else has that depth of knowledge to still regale us of “three quarter” play, and to assure us that every over/under cooked kick is indeed clever. Of course he will really come into his own on St. Pat’s day informing us of the son of an old Collegian scrum half here or an old Campbellian fly half there, but definitely no publicity for the son of a Welder’s full back anywhere!
