PRO12: Teams Up for Leinster v Ulster

by

It’s a bit of a mix-n-match by Ulster Head Coach, Mark Anscombe, who has made nine personnel changes and three positional switches to the team that beat Zebre at Ravenhill last weekend for tomorrow evening’s inter-provincial match against Leinster at the RDS (kick off 18:45).

On first glance I though “Well you have to fancy your chances there”, but on reading more closely the absence of Muller, combined with the fact that Pienaar and Payne are benching, did somewhat take away from my initial confidence. How good a back line is it going to be without the two players that make it tick?

Well, a lot hinges on the form of Paul Marshall, who has had a more than few off days against, the former Ravenhill favourite, Isaac Boss. If Marshall can overcome his nemesis then Ulster have every chance, but, if Isaac continues to wind him up then the obvious advantage that Ulster have in the back line, and in Paddy Jackson in particular, will be somewhat nullified!

However, the ball . . .

  1. Disappointed Annett not getting a start after Zebre performance. Superbly accurate line-out throwing in difficult conditions, very good hooking including a classic strike against the head and the guy has presence. Give him more experience at this level and Andy Ward will have no reason to highlight any episodes of being beaten on the inside shoulder.

    1. Ha ha Ginger! We are big Annett fans on the FRU and I’d love to see him get a run against some of the tougher teams but fair credit to Herring who seized his opportunity and looks to have come out on top in Rory’s absence.

Unfortunately Annett did himself no favours with a nervy enough performance against Zebre!

John, when I first heard the team selected for tomorrows game, i thought, “nice one Mark Anscome”
A 1st XV composed of Irish qualified players to compete in what could be called an “Final Trial”. (I know, showing my age!)
Then I receive your homlie, a whole different slant, which just goes to show, often, great minds don’t think alike!
I hope Ulster prevails but wouldn’t bet on it.
A Happy New Year to you and all your readers.
    Garibaldi.

    1. Hadn’t notice that they were all Irish qualified to tell you the truth Garibaldi – good spot.

Teams are fairly evenly matched so it should be a good game with Ulster just nicking it!
