Ulster Ravens went down 34 – 17 to the Cornish Pirates at Mennaye Field, Penzance, on Friday night in the opening round of British and Irish Cup.

The young Ulster side’s went behind early to a Carpenter try before James McKinney put the visitors in front through two successful penalties.

The Pirates added a second try, through Pope, and a penalty from Sinclair to take an seven point lead before Peter Nelson closed the gap to two points with a try on the stroke of half time.
