Lions: Tourists shine in Sydney

Lions 47-17 New South Wales Waratahs

Leigh Halfpenny scored a record 30 points to help the Lions complete an arduous five to two try victory over the Waratahs in a bruising encounter in Sydney.

First half tries from Sexton and the once again impressive Halfpenny, either side of a try from Waratahs Tom Carter, gave the tourists a well-earned 23-10 half time lead.

Further tries from Croft, Davies and a second from Halfpenny clinched the thoroughly deserved victory for the Lions, who remain unbeaten on the tour.

This was the best display of the tour so far for the Lions, but it was undermined hugely when Jamie Roberts (who looked certain to start in the first test alongside O’Driscoll) limped off in considerable pain on 70 minutes with what looked like a serious leg injury.
