Lions: Bowe injury worry as Reds push Lions.

The Lions fought back and held out for a deserved 22 – 12 win against a Quade Cooper inspired Queensland Reds side Saturday morning (UK time). Ben Youngs crossed for the Lions with Owen Farrell adding a conversion and five penalties.

The match was won at considerable cost to the touring side with Tommy Bowe and Manu Tuilagi adding to their already considerable injury list. Bowe now looks likely to miss the rest of the tour with a broken bone in his hand.

Cooper and his chums took the match to the tourists with a deal of enthusiasm making a mockery of the ease with which the Lions had won their earlier tour matches. Running the ball from everywhere, Queensland had the visitors on the ropes and, literally, gasping for air in frenetic first ten minutes.

Opting to run everything, the home side fashioned three good chances only to be denied by a couple of line out steals and some last gasp defence from Bowe and Stuart Hogg.  The Lions did create with ball in hand, with Bowe nearly putting Cuthbert in in the corner,  but the frenzied pace couldn’t last and when it . . .
