Great to be back at Ravers after an extended absence and it was particularly pleasing to be back in the company of two delightful young ladies, one attending a game for the first time.

I suppose I’ve become a touch cynical of the match day experience, unjustifiably wanting each game to live up to the classics I’ve attended over the years, but even this fairly mundane match sparkled through the excited eyes of a fourteen year old and I guess with the more matches we watch the more we take the skills and effort for granted, perhaps more so with Ulster’s recent success.

The game started brightly with, the oh so underrated, Darren Cave coming close with a clearance charge down, the ball just beating him to the dead ball line. Minutes later Chris Cochrane was denied by a foot in touch, off a great round the corner pass from Andrew Trimble, but Rob Herring made no mistake from the defensive line out  snatching up the overthrow to barrel over for Ulster’s first score. Ruan Pienaar added the extras and Ulster led 7 – 0 in as many minutes.

The expectation was that Ulster would kick on and . . .
