Guest columnist Graham Boville has a look at the opening fixtures of this season’s RBS Six Nations.

02/02/2013 – Wales v Ireland – Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. Kick Off – 13:30

The opening match of the Six Nations sees Ireland face an awkward trip to the Millennium Stadium to face Grand Slam champions Wales in a bid to avenge last year’s defeat in Dublin, where the tumultuous game was eventually decided by a last minute Leigh Halfpenny penalty.

Declan Kidney named a somewhat unsurprising line up with the returning O’Driscoll slotting back into centre alongside long-time old guarder Gordon D’Arcy. However, injuries to key players Bowe (knee) and O’Connell (back) have caused problems, and created opportunities within an Irish squad hoping to end a run of three successive defeats to this young Welsh side.

O’Connell’s absence suggests that Wales . . .
