PRO12: Ulster 16- 15 Treviso. A win’s a win…or is it?

When Mark Anscombe took over the reins at Ulster at the start of the season, people weren’t sure what to expect. To be 10 points clear top of the RaboDirect Pro 12 and thus far unbeaten entering the last week of November would surely have been beyond most fans expectations. Yet after Ulster’s latest win there will undoubtedly be some grumbling.

In the run up to the game, Ulster were buoyed by the return of Andrew Trimble and Paul Marshall to the fold, with neither being retained for Irish duty this week against Argentina. I feel that both will consider themselves slightly hard done by, and would have liked strong performances against Treviso to show what they were capable of.

Ulster started positively looking to move the ball early on, and signs were good when they took an early scrum against the head. Whilst agreeing with your summary of the match what we have to remember is that had there been better TV coverage of the match ie more cameras at the ground instead of the measly 2 angles that were shown, then either or both of big Nick’s tries could have been awarded and we would have been talking about an impressive win. But it is still a WIN and it is the sign of a good team that we can grind out a win when we clearly are under par and that is what we are becoming – a good side!! Roll on next week. SUFTUM
