AIL1B: Week 17 Review.

There’s no change at the top of AIL 1B with both Harlequins and Dungannon recording bonus point wins in the penultimate week of the competition.

The results set up a thrilling climax to this highly entertaining league with both sides on the road in the final week.

Belfast Harlequins held on to top spot despite trailing 7  – 15 to UCD at the break, their points coming from an Ian Porter try and conversion. A penalty try and further scores from Richard Lutton and Gavin McLoughlin plus one more conversion from Porter were just enough to see off the visitors at Deramore Park with Quins holding on to win 24 – 22.

Dungannon kept the pressure on for top spot with a comfortable 37 – 15 win over Ballymena at Stevenson Park. Dungannon’s tries came from Peter Nelson, Glenn Sinnamon, Conor Gaston and Michael Lawton with Lawton adding four conversions and three penalties to see off their Ulster rivals.

Ballymena responded with a try in each half from Alasdair Frazer and Luke Marshall chipped in . . .
