AIL1B: Week 16 Results

We thought this would be a pivotal week in the AIL1B and it certainly proved that way with some extraordinary results.

The big winners, as far as Ulster sides are concerned, were Belfast Harlequins and Dungannon and it now looks as though these two are going to be fighting it out with late arrivals UL Bohs over the closing weeks of the league campaign.

Belfast Harlequins held on to top spot with a hard fought17 – 19 win over Ballymena at Eaton Park. Ballymena led 7 – 5 at the break through a Paul Pritchard try and Luke Marshall conversion with Quins responding with a Willie Stewart try.

The visitors cranked it up up front in the second half and a penalty try and an Adam Macklin score together with two Ian Porter conversions were just enough to hold off the home team who responded with a Caolan Fitzpatrick try and a conversion and penalty from Marshall.
