Women: Rosie Steward Cup Round 1 Preview.

The new format of the Rosie Stewart Cup kicks off this weekend with Ulster Women’s eight premier teams split into two Pools, based in the East and West of the Province. (See here for full draw.)

This weekend the Ulster West Pool fixtures feature what should be the match of the round with Cavan entertaining City of Derry tomorrow afternoon (Sunday KO 13:00) at Co Cavan RFC.

Wit CoD missing some of their stars to the Ireland Camp this weekend it should provide the hosts with an opportunity to steal a march in their Pool and we’re tipping Cavan to come out on top in a low scoring game.

In the other Pool West fixture home advantage should count for Enniskillen against Sligo though Sligo, who have joined the Ulster Cup for the second season, showed good form last year.

The Ulster West Pool features the two strongest Women’s sides in Ulster at the moment in Cooke and Belfast Harlequins, and despite both teams losing players to the Ireland camp they should both have enough strength in depth to overcome Carrick and Queens University respectively, though . . .
