Caldwell Out : Stevenson In

by

,

Talking about badly kept secrets on t’internet as we did in the previous post I suppose that we should mention that Ulster Rugby have confirmed the transfer of Ryan Caldwell to Bath at the end of the season.

It seems that Ryan has had enough of the Raven’s advice every time he appeared in the Scoop and has decided to try his luck over in Bath. I wonder if he knows that Raging Raven sometimes goes over there to visit Flat Top?

Ulster are bringing back Lewis Stevenson (below right) who has been plying his trade at Exeter and, more recently, London Harlequins:

Ulster Rugby are delighted to announce the signing of 26 year old lock Lewis Stevenson on a two year contract from London Harlequins.

Lewis will finish . . .

Cardwell is an unfortunate player — he one of those poeple who really doesn’t need a number on his back with 30 players on the pitch the first one you recognise is Caldwell.

He could do well with Bath because the breakdown is not referee to the same extent in England or in the same way. ie they penalise non release of the ball rather than going over the top .Several Magners League referees ( in my opinion ) referee players and forget about infringements which did Caldwell (and Ulster) no favours at all.

Similiarly he is a tall player who if he joins a ruck early gets either knocked over or pulled over the ball in days gone by referees if they consider the player was un-intentional infringing eg blocking a heel or lying over the ball would have blown for a scrum nowdays every infringement
is assumed to be intentional and a penalty awarded which really is sickening for a player if he has no control over his ability to get out of the way.

It could be a good move for him and a change of coaching and playing styles could improve his game
